    Year 1 Phonics

Year 1 phonics practises the National Curriculum expectations for Year 1: the correct sound for graphemes for all 40+ phonemes, including alternative sounds, blending to read unfamiliar words, reading words of more than one syllable, and spelling with the sounds taught. Your child's school follows its own phonics programme, and the order it teaches sounds in may differ, so follow the school.

What children learn in Year 1 Phonics

Alternative sounds and spellings for known graphemes (ay, ou, ie, ea, oy, ir)

    How WonderPath teaches Phonics

    AI tutor that adapts

WonderPath's AI tutor adjusts difficulty in real time. If your child finds a topic easy, it moves on. If they struggle, it provides extra scaffolding and worked examples: just like a patient one-to-one tutor.

    Interactive activities

Every lesson includes hands-on activities: drag-and-drop puzzles, quizzes, drawing tasks, and creative challenges. Children learn by doing, not just watching, keeping engagement high.

    Progress tracking

Parents see where their child is thriving and where they need support. WonderPath tracks progress against each curriculum objective your child has practised and shows what comes next.
